Concentration of platelets

Clinical studies of PRP systems (Platelet Rich Plasma) have shown a correlation between the platelet concentration and the efficacy of cell stimulation1. It is generally accepted that a platelet level above 1 million platelets/μl is necessary to show significant clinical results.

Vivostat® PRF® uses two different technologies to obtain a platelet concentration that is above 1 million platelets/μl.

     1)  The Processor Unit is based on high-speed centrifugation technology; spinning at 9,000 rpm ensures a well defined separation of the red blood cells (RBC), buffy coat and plasma.

     2) The actual separation is controlled by proprietary RBC sensors that accurately, consistently and independently of the operator define the borderline between the buffy coat and the RBC. This ensures a platelet yield of up to 65%2.

At about 7 times (on average) the baseline blood level, the platelet concentration in Vivostat® PRF® is higher than any other commercially available or "homemade" PRP systems, which typically yield a concentration of platelets between 1.5 and 4 times baseline levels3.
