Vascular surgery

Vascular surgery comprises all surgery on blood vessels outside the chest. Traditionally, arterial surgery has been most recognised, however, lately also venous surgery is becoming a central part of vascular surgery. The most common procedures are:

  • Peripheral bypass (lower limb ischemia)
  • Aortic aneurysm resection (prevention of rupture)
  • Carotid endarterectomy (prevention of stroke)

Like in cardiac surgery, vascular surgery involves procedures with long suture lines and re-operations is a special challenge. Within vascular surgery the Vivostat® System is especially useful for:

  • Proactive sealing of anastomoses and areas of potential bleeding
  • Sealing of lymphatic vessels

Whereas the former would seem logical and may be especially warranted in difficult cases, i.e. re-operations in the groin or retro-peritoneum, the latter may be an approach to reduce the common complication of lymph-oozing and infection, which is especially well known in procedures involving the arteries in the groin.

The versatility of the Spraypen™ enables the surgeon to spray pin-point at specific sites (anastomoses etc.) and to seal larger areas, e.g. the entire wound surface in the groin.
