Abdominal surgery
As abdominal surgery comprises many organs and procedures only a few are described here.
The main historical use of haemostasis in abdominal surgery is within liver surgery due to the nature of the tissue and the extend of diffuse bleeding. To stop diffuse bleeding during split liver transplants and liver resections a haemostatic agent must be fast acting, easy to apply and homogenous. The combination of the superior properties of Vivostat® fibrin sealant and the specially designed Spraypen™ offers the surgeon a high degree of efficiency. Being able to apply the fibrin sealant when required and at close range improves the safety of the operation and helps to perfect the surgery.
Besides liver surgery, Vivostat® fibrin sealant is currently being used in a wide range of abdominal procedures, including
- Renal surgery
- Spleen surgery
- Colorectal surgery
- Hernia repair
- Pancreas surgery
- Prostate surgery
- Gallbladder surgery
Many of these procedures are perfomed with minimal invasive techniques, and the ability to use the Vivostat® Endoscopic Applicator has proven very useful in these cases.
